For over a decade Visthar has been offering an annual month-long certificate course on Gender, Diversity and Social Transformation (GDST). The course has attracted participants from across the globe, representing civil society organizations, human rights commissions, educational institutions and, faith-based organizations from about 15 countries. GDST was much appreciated for its content, methodology and facilitation processes.
Responding to requests from those who cannot participate in month long programme, we are redesigning the course. We will now be offering a series of 10 day segments. The first in the series is on Mainstreaming Gender in Organizations and Programmes and will be held from 5th – 15th of May 2020.
The programme aims at strengthening participants’ understanding of :
- Concepts of gender, caste, class, sexuality and masculinities.
- Social relations and social institutions in Asian and African contexts.
- Rethinking development from a gender and social relations perspective
- Gender analysis and international policy frameworks
- Engendering planning monitoring and evaluation of programmes
- Mainstreaming gender equality and social inclusion within organizations.

Facilitators / Resource persons
The course will be facilitated by Mercy Kappen, Roshen Chandran and Dr. Vaishali Sonavane from Visthar. The course will also draw on a panel of resource persons including Ms. Ranjani K Murthy (Independent Researcher and Author), Dr. Sekhar Seshadri (NIMHANS Bangalore), Dr. David Selvaraj (Educationist), and leading grassroots activists who have been working for gender and social justice for several decades.
Methodology
The course will follow an action-reflection action model (Paulo Freire). The facilitators/ resource persons will build on participants own experiences and knowledge base. The methodologies will include group discussions, case studies, role plays, audio-visuals, input sessions and exposure visits. Participants will share best practices and develop plans and strategies for mainstreaming gender and social inclusion in their organizations and programmes.

Open to participants from Government and Non-Government Organizations (GOs and NGOs), Faith-based Organizations (FBOs), and academic institutions in India and overseas.
