This four-day training course on UDRR primarily focusses on enabling CSOs and government officials to understand global frameworks on UDRR and developing systematic strategies and programmes for UDRR. The course also deals with understanding dynamics of urban development, complex nature of urban vulnerabilities, increasing exposure to hazards and issues related with urban governance. At practice level, the course covers approaches, tools and techniques for urban risk assessment and key areas of actions which can be taken up by CSOs. Along with the perspective of looking at the disaster risks in the light of hazards, this course also provides a framework of day to day risks affecting men, women and children with special reference to the issues of public health, protection and day to day stressors emerging from urbanization.
Who can apply? Project managers/coordinators from CSOs across sectors and government officials involved in disaster management.
This intensive course involving essential theory and class room based exercises will be ideal for people interested in working in disaster risk reduction. The course provides a strong introduction and understanding of disaster risk reduction with the specificities of working in urban contexts. Those with specific technical skills will benefit from learning the ways to apply their expertise to unique urban contexts. Individuals and agency staff working in the sector would also benefit from vital orientation and reflection on current humanitarian work issues, trends and knowledge.
Training Methodology: Throughout this training, the emphasis is on active learning through participatory group exercises, case studies and scenarios, demonstrations, and focused discussions. All RedR India training modules are planned and presented in collaboration with specialist organizations. Informal exchange of experience is a vital part of every course. Trainers with vast experience in relief work and humanitarian sector are a part of the training team.
